Despite the wintry weather, WVSOM's International Festival on Jan. 19 offered a night of diverse food tastings, captivating performances, as well as silent and live auctions.
The event raised funds for the student chapter of DOCARE International's service trip to Peru in March, where students will provide medical care to underserved communities. Dr. James. Nemitz visited the festival and talked with second-year students Claire Atiyeh and Joud Hassoun while enjoying the international flavor.

The West Virginia Chamber of Commerce's Legislative Reception allowed legislators and state leaders to gather. Among the guests were WVU President Dr. Gordon Gee and WVSOM President Dr. James Nemitz, who took a moment to share a private conversation at the West Virginia Culture Center.
During the Rural Health Day at the WV Legislature, WVSOM representatives joined Dr. James Nemitz, Ph.D.; and Janet Hinton, WVSOM's Director of Rural Health Outreach; in the Senate Chamber as guests of Senators Tom Takubo, R-Kanawha; Jack Woodrum, R-Summers; and Vince Deeds, R-Greenbrier; in the Senator chambers. Organized by Hinton, who is also president-elect of the West Virginia Rural Health Association (WVRHA), and Rich Sutphin, executive director of the WVRHA, the event highlighted rural health providers’ activities, services and needs. Among the other WVSOM representatives were Katherine Calloway, D.O., MPH, assistant dean at the South Central Region of WVSOM’s Statewide Campus; and Dr. Carolyn Bridgett Morrison, DO.
