The event for WISH (Women Interested in Staying Healthy) featured a health fair, speakers and other activities. WISH offers a non-judgemental safe space for women aged 35 and over to gather and learn about incremental healthy lifestyle change. Each two-hour biweekly session includes a nutritional session with a food tasting opportunity led by a registered dietician, an exercise session with low-impact exercises led by an exercise physiologist, and an education session regarding various topics that promote healthy lifestyle change by either Bob Foster, D.O. or Amy Jasperse, Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. Participants are given a wealth of resources and support and encouraged to make informed decisions that align with their personal health goals.

WVSOM President James W. Nemitz, Ph.D, welcomes West Virginia's Dental Director, Jason Roush, DDS, to campus in Lewisburg. As the State Dental Director, Roush heads West Virginia's Oral Health Program (OHP) , which is administered by the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, located within the Bureau for Public Health, Office of Maternal, Child and Family Health (OMCFH) under the Division of Infant, Child and Adolescent Health.
Derek Baran won the Dr. Roland P. Sharp President and Foundation Award of Excellence for Student Achievement. The award was presented by WVSOM President James W. Nemitz., Ph.D.
Each year, the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine (WVSOM) recognizes medical students for their achievements in academics and the community during the school’s annual Spring Awards Ceremony. The event took place March 7 and recipients received a total of $102,300 through 29 scholarships, awards and certificates of appreciation.
President Nemitz said generous contributions made by donors are invaluable in lessening the financial debts of medical students.
“We appreciate the continued support of our benefactors. I also want to acknowledge the work of the WVSOM Foundation and WVSOM Alumni Association for raising the funds for many of these awards and the special contribution made by the foundation to supplement some of the awards,” he said.
