The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine works to be part of the Lewisburg and Greenbrier County business community. That includes attending events such as the Greater Greenbrier Chamber of Commerce's Business After Hours events. The recent event at the Lee Street Studio offered an excellent chance to enjoy the work of local artists while networking with other members of the business community. Several guests affiliated with WVSOM joined President James W. Nemitz at the ACOFP annual convention in New Orleans, La.
Lorenzo Pence, D.O., a longtime family medicine physician who served as WVSOM's vice president for academic affairs and dean from 2011 to 2014, received the Excellence in Advocacy Award, which recognizes family medicine physicians who have significantly contributed their time and talents to health care policy issues at the local or federal levels on behalf of his or her profession and patients.
Craig Boisvert, D.O., former vice president for academic affairs and dean of WVSOM, was presenting with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Boisvert is the 27th physician to receive the award, which honors “outstanding individuals who have demonstrated career-long service to patients, osteopathic family medicine and the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians.”

The West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine held a “soft opening” of its new Testing Center on April 1 with students, faculty, administration and members of the campus community touring the building. President James W. Nemitz, Ph.D., and Raeann Carrier, Ph.D., WVSOM's Director for the National Boards Office, discuss the new facility. A public grand open and ribbon cutting will be schedule in the coming weeks.
